Google, Yahoo and Generated Web Pages
In the past 2 months I have had several sites get de-listed from Yahoo that relied pretty heavily on DG and TE.
My first reaction was to get every directory off all my other income producing sites. The problem was that those directories were responsible for much of my AdSense income.
Now Google and Yahoo did not de-list my other sites that contained generated directories. But why?
Now at this point I didn’t know if big “G” and big “Y” just didn’t find them yet, or if the criteria for delisting of a site was based on an algorithm of relevancy to consumer value of the generated pages, and not just because the pages left a virtual footprint.
Since the de-listing of my generated sites had already cost me between $60 and $100 per day in income, not to mention the absolute frustration I felt with this whole Internet business thing, I decided to let the sites that were still listed and making money keep the generated directories and see what happened.
This way at lest I would know if all DG, TE, type pages are considered “Evil” by the search engine gods.
The conclusion to date: It appears that both Google and Yahoo will tolerate generated directory pages, as long as the generated pages are determined not to be the sole purpose of the site.
In other words they must represent a sum of the whole value of the web site.
My unaffected sites consist of 5 to 20 pages of original content, a CD article directory, two blogs (one on-site and one off-site) and the dreaded DG directory of resource links.
The generated portion of the site was not dominant, (a few hundred pages and not several thousand) and was a logical part of the whole site concept.
These sites also took more time and effort to build and that was why I built less of them. This whole saga turned out to be a Tortoise and the Hare type story, and just like that story, this one also has a moral.
… I did learn a painful yet valuable lesson.
If you expect to get value from your web sites, you must make sure that they first “GIVE” value to your visitors.
So in my limited 60 or so day study it appears that the use of directory-generated pages is acceptable. It is the ‘Abuse” of directory-generated pages, that will get you in trouble.

Forex Trading
For a long time, forex trading had been the right of a lucky few. Biggies in the financial market were the only ones to play with foreign currencies and multiply earnings. But now, things have changed with the changing currency exchange rates. Technological advances have taken individual investors miles ahead. The trend of trading in foreign currencies has revived due to growing public interest in it. For the money minded, it is a brilliant way to earn money. However, all is not golden with such trading. Like many other business options, this is a high gain, high risk game.
While you make yourself a party in the game of forex trading, keep in mind that it won’t be a winning story always. Since the financial market is illusive there are sure to be unexpected up and definite downfalls. You need to be receptive about both. However, it is in your hand to prepare yourself for the tough times. Keep yourself ready to face the volatile market when an interest rate announcement is made by Fed. Or, purchase only that much which your account’s risk profile permits. Don’t go overboard and risk a large share of your invested capital to yield unrecoverable losses.
Having said that, you can’t just fold your arms and stop forex trading. This will just keep you away from a promising business opportunity. Remember not trading is no solution. You need to trade but with caution. It is extremely important to manage your funds properly and take few calculated risks. This will allow you to steer clear of the thorns and get the roses out of the forex garden. Now, if all these sounds like a plan, then why wait? Get your fund manager to do some basic calculations for you and take the forex wand in your hand for some magic.
Start a Home-Based Personal Assistant Business
Do you know how many people have time to manage the variety of important tasks before them each day? Not too many, think of your own life. How many times have you wished you could have more time to complain about a billing error and how long it eventually took to be resolved when you finally had enough time to deal with it? Well there are thousands of people saying just that and have the same problem with time. This problem is now your opportunity, now you can start a Home-Based Personal Assistant Business.
Here is a listing of the types of tasks that many people need help with the most:
• Billing Complaints
• Organizing Meetings and Appointments
• Party Planning
• Client Christmas Card Mailing
• Important Date Reminder
• Vacation Planning
• Information Inquiries
Getting started is simple, there are three things to consider, business setup, service pricing and marketing.
Business Setup - You will need a phone that can handle multiple incoming calls at one time. Nothing worse than a busy signal when an important call is coming in and you cannot handle it in a professional manner. A cell phone and a pager, always be available for your clients. You may even consider obtaining a blackberry to handle email when you are away from your office. Next, you will need a fax machine, a computer and a high quality printer. The last essential piece of office equipment is a “tickler file”. The tickler file is a filing system methodology that incorporates organizing tasks by importance and due date. Those tasks that are of most importance and are due sooner than the others are placed in front of the file, while those of least importance and are due later are placed behind. As tasks are completed, they are moved out of the file system and into a separate complete file so that only your active tasks remain in the tickler file.
Pricing - You can be paid in two ways, though methods that are more creative can be used also. The first is to be paid by the hour, if you do choose to employ this method, make sure you keep good track of the time you spend on tasks so that you can provide detailed billing, much as an attorney would for his clients. Do not be too fussy, some minor tasks can be listed but can also be discounted. The second way to be paid is to obtain a type of retainer fee from the client whereby you promise to complete a set number of tasks in each given year without sending a bill.
Marketing - Start by advertising in your local newspaper and gradually graduate to prominent business journals, magazines and newsletters. Once you have a few clients and have successfully completed a few tasks, ask them for referrals. If they use your services, chances are they have the same types of friends that will also need your services.

Free Online Greeting Cards
Greeting cards of the paper kind are fast becoming outdated, unless of course one has the patience and the wherewithal to print fancy cards off the web. In which case, e-greetings may as well be an option. Moreover, most free e-card sites advertise their wares by emphasizing the words “free”, “hundreds to choose from”, and “no registration required.” This makes them all the more attractive to potential users.
E-greetings have become a popular way for people to connect with one another. Any mode of communication that is electronic, specifically with regard to the Internet, is a revolution of sorts. And e-cards are no less so. So many websites display a wide variety of cards with a multitude of options, categorized by occasion.
They also offer, among other things, a free “MyWebSearch” toolbar, plus a “search assistant”, which is supposed to make available pertinent search results in response to misspelled or erroneously formatted browser address requests. Most or many of these sites include free fun e-products such as ’smileys’ and screensavers. As a bonus, they make room for future sending of the chosen greetings, an invitation service, a printing service, email reminders and more.
There are different categories of cards in stock for all sorts of occasions, from Kwanzaa to Hanukkah, Chinese New year, carnivals, Cinco De Mayo and Christmas. There are cards for birthdays and events, milestones, anniversaries, love and romance, ‘thinking of you’, congratulations, get well soon, friendship and so on.
For fun and entertainment, they have a section for daily horoscopes, fortune cookies, compatibility readings, tournaments and celebrity birthdays. Additionally, there is an invitation service where the user can create and send party or other invitations and keep track of guest responses from any web browser, anytime.
These websites offer reminder services for avid e-greeting fans, so that a birthday or anniversary may never be forgotten. These reminders will come into email boxes or wireless devices.
One of the many perks of sending free e-cards is that the websites have game centers where one can test one’s skill, play games and later on send them as cards to friends and associates.
There are still other features that e-greeting sites have that are worth noting - they have subcategories under categories such as ‘birthday’, which offers subgroups like humor, getting old, classic, belated and more, or a ‘just because’ category with congratulations, friendship, hello and keep-in-touch as options under it. And then there is ‘collections’, with a miscellaneous assortment of types.
Greeting Cards provides detailed information on Greeting Cards, Free Online Greeting Cards, Printable Greeting Cards, Greeting Card Stores and more. Greeting Cards is affiliated with Free Post Cards.

Is Blogging Necessary to Your Internet Business?
Almost three years ago - We used to keep in-touch with your
customers using phone calls, email messages and face to face
meetings. Today the world has altered. Clients require even more
continual updates, yet it’s almost impractical to meet with
every business contact on a routine basis.
Thankfully, Blogging has appeared to the salvation. Setting up a
Blog on your web site - and having a comparable RSS feed - means
you will be able to keep in continual touch with your clients
and possible customers. Moreover you don’t have to contact them
and they can get your most recent news without having to visit
your web site.
Consequently how does this all operate? A Blog is really a fancy
name for a web page that gets updated continually. It’s nothing
special. There are various methods concerning writing ‘Blogs’,
however they are nothing more than computer programs which allow
you to easily update a web page. Far and away the simplest way
to set up a Blog is with a website-titled blogger.com.
Nevertheless, for keeping in touch with your customers, RSS is
the key. RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. What this
means is that your Blog be able to be automatically delivered to
clients who want to read it - you don’t need to send it to them
and neither do they have to come and pick it up. All they need
is the address of your RSS Feed and their RSS Newsreader can do
the assignment for them. There are many RSS readers available
and new web browsers combine the capacity to read RSS feeds and
keep them updated.
Any time you add new content to your Blog, the RSS Feed
automatically gets updated in everyone’s Reader program or web
browser. Which means you are guaranteed to stay in contact with
clients and prospects. You don’t have to do anything other than
show the content. Likewise, you don’t face the problems of email
filters and anti-Spam programs blocking your email. However,
people tend to read RSS Feeds because they have subscribed to
them whereas they tend to ignore non-urgent emails.
At the same time you can recognise, there are certain advantages
to Blogs and RSS Feeds. But it doesn’t stop there. Search
engines love them. That’s because Blogs supply fresh and new
content - Exactly what searchers are looking for. Consequently
the search engines are actively driving Blogs higher up the
search engine ranking. This means if you don’t have a Blog for
your business, you are severely shortening your chances of a
high search engine ranking. You need a Blog nowadays to get
noticed by the search engines.
Hence, Blogging is required. Not only does it help improve your
web presence; it also means you can keep in contact with clients
and prospects more smoothly. And all the marketing research you
can find will inform you that keeping in normal touch with your
customers is a significant part in gaining additional business.
So get ready to Blog!
Trademarks - What You Ought to Know
Trademark law affects every business in the United States. Don’t assume that your new business name, new product name, slogan or logo has not already been used commercially OR trademarked!
No business name may be used in any one of the following cases, IF there is a conflict or similarity in sound, appearance or meaning & industry:
- A Federally registered trademark anywhere in the U.S., or
- A State registered trademark in any state they do business in, or
- Used within same geographic trade area with “first use” Common-Law protection.
There are over 2,500,000 Trademarks, and over 16,000,000 commercial Common Law trade names in use. ANY existing Federal Trademark, State Trademark or commercial Common Law use takes precedence over your new business or product name, IF there is a conflict or similarity in sound, appearance or meaning & industry.
When you create a new business name, product name, slogan or logo, you will begin to establish your legal rights to your name in the geographic trade area where you do business based on Common-Law usage.
However, the question is: Is your trade name truly available?
It is a company’s obligation and it is in their best interest to enforce its marks. Trademark owners have up to six years to find and order businesses to change any infringing trade name.
Infringing trademark companies could face costly attorney bills ($200 to $350 hour), immediate renaming of their company or product, recall of products, forfeiture of profits, re-marketing of the new name, and marketing change-over for a new name, including logo, signs, corporation, forms, checks, packaging, yellow page listings, web site, etc.
Comprehensive research is truly a need for any new business name, new product name, new slogan or new logo.

Venture Capital Jobs
People spend a great deal of time on the job, and it is important, especially in venture capital to design jobs so that individuals feel good about their work. This requires an appropriate job structure in terms of content, function and relationships.
The focus of job design is on the individual position or on work groups. First, individual jobs are enriched by putting tasks into natural work units. This means putting tasks that are related into one category and assigning an individual to carry out these tasks. A second approach used in venture capital jobs is to combine several tasks into one job. For example, rather than having the tasks of assembling a water pump carried out by several people on the assembly line, workstations can be established with individuals doing the whole task of putting the unit together and even testing it.
Also, establishing direct relationships with the customer or client can enrich venture capital jobs. A systems analyst may present findings and recommendations directly to the managers involved in the systems change rather than reporting to a superior, who would then make recommendations to top management. Prompt and specific feedback is built into the system whenever appropriate. Venture capital jobs can also be enriched through vertical job loading that increases individual’s responsibility for planning, doing and controlling their job.
Similar arguments can be made for improving the design of jobs for work teams. Jobs should be designed so that groups have a complete task to perform. Moreover, teams may be given authority and freedom to decide how well the jobs shall be performed, giving the groups a great deal of autonomy. Within the team, individuals can be trained so that they rotate to different jobs within the group. Finally, rewards may be administered on the basis of group performance that tends to induce cooperation rather than competition among team members.

Blow Their Socks Off Online!
Perhaps one of the complaints I have with most internet marketing sites is that they all have a typical look. They say the same things with a similar font, and highlighter. It’s almost like there is some mediocre web designer somewhere who is making a killing!
At the height of the first internet craze while business fundamentals where tossed to the wind, companies were certainly innovative. Ideas were the currency, and a great idea - long before execution, could make you millions. It wasn’t ok to simply have a site, you had to stand out. Sure they had more sizzle than substance but now we have some stuff under the hood but little “Wow!” factor.
I challenge you to step away from the computer, quite trying to duplicate someone’s success story. It’s great to know that such success is possible and the methods and best practices of those who did it, but chart your own path! I bet a few readers would rather lead the pack than simply join it.
With so many sites and tons of content, simply being another site hoping to share a part of the money pot is - boring. If you are going to put in the effort - why not do something outstanding. Let me take a few steps back. It’s important to take baby steps when you are starting, and those steps may not be innovative or ground breaking, but let your vision be out of this world.
Walt Disney was very non-traditional in his thinking. Many business geniuses are ridiculed early in their carets. The press doubted the potential of Disneyland - they called it “Disney’s Folly”.
If you have a crazy idea that you dare to share - expect some ridicule. Imagine telling family and friends that you are going to start an internet business where you give everything away free. That’s right, free. That’s what a small company called Hotmail set out to do with their email platform. They were first, they were free and these isn’t anyone reading this article who doesn’t know someone with a Hotmail account or at least heard of it.
Hotmail understood what would be outstanding in the late nineties. Take a service that people pay for, improve upon it and give it away free. They sell ads on the site, so many that Microsoft decided to get in the action and rather than compete, simply bought them out and repackaged it as we now know it.
The “find what people are paying for on the Internet and give it away free” concept is still good, but to be wildly successful you may need something more. What would that be? That’s the million dollar question, rather if you come up with the answer you may stand a chance of turning that idea into a few zeros!
Having said all this, you have to start somewhere - even better, start with someone who has show some success, so find a mentor who has shown some success, so find a mentor and learn the ropes. Then jump in the ring with the intention of scoring a knockout!
